Did you know that this year, Mido celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Mido Ocean Star collection? And that is not all! In honor of this big milestone, Mido has launched an entirely new model. The Mido Ocean Star 39 represents the collection in a new, thinner size, with a cool dial inspired by the wave patterns on the ocean floor. Four models have been introduced, each with its unique characteristics. Shall we dive in? Let’s go!

Meet the 4 Unique Ocean Star 39 Variants

So, the first one we want to mention is the black and blue model (Batman model, Ref: M026.907.11.041.00). This one features a striking color gradient from black to blue, reminiscent of the ocean’s depths.

Then there is the grey gradient model (Ref: M026.907.11.061.00). Notably, this gem offers a somewhat neutral appearance. And, the champagne model (Ref: M026.907.21.021.00) exudes luxury and elegance, while the black model with PVD coating (Ref: M026.907.37.051.00) brings a modern look with orange details. We are in love with this one!

Elegant and Functional Case Design

The case of the new Mido Ocean Star 39 model is essentially a scaled-down version of the original Ocean Star model. With a diameter of 39mm, we can see the case keeps the curved lugs and contrasting brushed and polished surfaces. The most significant difference from the larger versions is the lack of a crown guard. That said, this further brings out the reduced size and makes the watch less bulky! The new model maintains a water resistance of 200 meters.

Now, what about the full design? The case finish is executed with the maximum care. It features a smooth and refined appearance that also has polished surfaces. The bracelet is made of stainless steel, with three links and a folding clasp with a diving extension.

Stunning Dial Designs Inspired by the Ocean

Now, the dial of the Mido Ocean Star 39 model is a key element that truly catches the eye. Inspired by waves, sand, and the ocean floor, the dial has dimensionality and depth. This goes without saying!

The Mido Ocean Star 39 comes with 4 dial versions, including:

  • a black-to-blue gradient,
  • a black-to-grey gradient,
  • champagne, and
  • black,

Each of these truly offers a unique visual experience. The black and blue (Batman) model is particularly striking, with shades of blue transitioning to darker tones, evoking a dive into the ocean depths. The black model with PVD coating further brings out the aesthetics with orange lume on the markers and hands.

Redesigned Hands and Indexes

The new Ocean Star 39 collection comes with redesigned hands and indexes, combining triangular and round shapes. Compared to the larger models, the triangular indexes are now sitting at 12, 6, and 9 o’clock.

Inside the Mido Ocean Star 39 is the automatic caliber Mido 72, based on the ETA A31.111 movement. This is not the Powermatic 80 but another caliber from the ETA family with a 72-hour power reserve and a Nivachron balance spring. The ETA A31.111 movement is based on the ETA 2892-A2 automatic movement.

Now, what else is important to note? The ETA 2892-A2 has a power reserve of 42 hours, while the A31.111 can run up to 72 hours with full winding. This improvement was achieved by using upgraded materials for the mainspring and fitting a longer spring with more coils. The Mido 72 caliber operates at a frequency of 25,500 vibrations per hour (3.5 Hz), providing precise timekeeping. This movement has 21 jewels and is known for its reliability and durability. The mechanism is protected by a solid steel case back adorned with the traditional Ocean Star collection emblem – a starfish.

Perfect Mix of Cool Design and Performance

The Mido Ocean Star 39 is a collection that successfully mixes contemporary design and top-notch performance, marking 80 years of this series. The combination of a high-quality mechanism, attractive dials, and construction makes the Ocean Star 39 an ideal choice for everyday wear, both on land and underwater.

Now, we all want to know how much this gem costs! Prices for the Mido Ocean Star 39 range from 1,190 EUR for the stainless steel versions to 1,260 EUR for the black PVD version. For more details, you can visit the official Mido website.
